Exploring is Learning at Putney

Playing with oats

We always encourage the Nursery children to explore and learn. Sensory activities incorporate smells, sounds and different textures to provide the children with sensory experiences, while also improving their fine motor skills and encouraging social engagement.

In this experience we used oats, placed in boxes and provided the children with cups and scooping equipment. The children enjoyed scooping the oats into cups, exploring the texture with their hands and interacting with one another while filling up the cups together. The children showed enthusiasm and were encouraged to add other objects to explore with, like blocks and paintbrushes.
