An Explosion of Colour at Telford Park

An explosion of colour at Telford Park children sitting cross legged on colourful flooring

Our science experiment during science week related back to our topic of emotions. So, we revisited our zones of regulations. The colours we used were blue for sadness, green for happiness, yellow for frustration, and red for anger. Zones of regulations are used to teach children about emotions and different colours are used to describe a particular emotion. We used cylinders containing all of these colours to make a volcano effect which helped us reinforce the colours and how we can use them to describe our feelings.

We used vinegar and bi-carb soda with some dish soap and the food colours we added all these ingredients into the cylinders. The children thoroughly enjoyed this experience and were so excited about the chemical reaction the bi-carb and vinegar made with the different colours.

Within our group time, we facilitated the children’s explanation, prediction, and discussion of the volcano experiment and how it works. We also develop children’s scientific knowledge about volcanoes and chemical reactions.
