The end of the year is drawing closer, bringing with it an air of reminiscence, of gratitude and of celebration.
A difficult year for many, 2021 has certainly posed some significant challenges to early childhood education and care, affecting educators, children, families and the community. For the amazing team of educators at Story House Maitland these challenges sparked a renewed dedication to children’s education and a new way of thinking about how we nurture and support our children and families. Understanding that “families are children’s first and most influential teachers” (DEEWR, 2009), our educators dedicated themselves to strengthening partnerships with families in order to provide optimal care for each individual child. As a result of their hard work and dedication, the learning community of Story House Maitland is stronger and more connected than ever.
This strength as a community is bittersweet at this time of year as we prepare to send our graduating preschoolers off to school. With so many of our graduates having been in our care since they were babies in the nursery, the memories abound. We have heard their laughter and wiped their tears, shared in their learning, nurturing them as they have played, grown and developed, each in their unique way. We have cherished every moment spent together and feel grateful to have been a part of each individual learning journey. It is with such fondness, pride and just a little bit of sadness that we wish them luck on their next big adventure, knowing that the bonds forged at Story House Maitland will remain forever in all of our hearts.
At Story House Maitland we are in a unique position of offering before and after school hours care as well as vacation care. This means that although we farewell our preschool graduates, many will return to our service for many years to come as school aged children. Our OOSH program provides a quality program of structured crafts, games and sporting activities as well as supporting recreational time with friends. During Vacation Care, our program is extended through a wide range of excursions within our local community. The children are safely transported in our own Story House bus during these excursions as well as school drop-offs and pick-ups. We provide all meals while children are in our care.
