From Monday 19th until Friday the 23rd of July our service held a pyjama week to raise money for the education of children in foster care through The Pyjama Foundation. The educators and children had so much fun coming in their pyjamas and participating in the different themed activities for the week.
Day one saw different rooms building forts using different materials for children to hide, play, relax, talk and read stories in. Children demonstrated their ability to seek and use quiet time and relate to others with care and respect.
On Tuesday, the children enjoyed bringing their favorite toys to school. They engaged in dramatic play, practicing social skills to communicate and share their toys.
Wednesday was “bring a bedtime story” day for Pyjama Week. The children enjoyed sharing books from their home with their educators and friends. Children in the older rooms were excited to share their interests and the books promoted discussions through looking at the pictures and reading the stories. The nursery rooms enjoyed listening to the different books and responding by pointing, babbling and talking.
Thursday and Friday the children enjoyed a dance party and experiencing their environments in different lights. The babies enjoyed music and exploring the disco lights. They were very intrigued by the colours and patterns, responding by babbling, touching and pointing at the lights, fostering their communication skills and senses. The older children enjoyed dancing and singing together, building on their ability to join in group activities and harness their gross motor skills. We also enjoyed parts of the day with the main lights off and small, colorful and fairy lights on. Children displayed wonder and curiosity in their environments.
