Congratulations to Jade Stokman who is our new Service Manager at Story House Early Learning Maitland. We took some time to ask Jade about her time in Early Learning.
Tell us about your career at Story House?
I have been with Story House since they took over our Maitland service in November 2019. Previously I had been at my current service for just over 3 years. When starting with Story House I began as the Toddler room lead educator. Recently the opportunity to become service manger became available and as the Story House values, Philosophy and structure system resinated with me I applied. I am happy to say I was successful in my application and now I am Maitland’s service manager. I am very excited about the future possibilities our Maitland service may have with the support of our wonderful BOM Amy, nearby service in Aberglasslyn and the support of the entire Story House team.
What led you to a career in the childcare industry?
I have always wanted to work with children. After leaving school I began a traineeship in the Blue Mountains and fell in love with the industry immediately. I have worked in some amazing services in both NSW and QLD and have met some fantastic inspiring educators along the way.
What do you love about the service you work in?
The service that I work in is so unique. Being in an old church there is extra charm and personality. We still have a lot of the church features throughout with a large, open, outdoor space. Our location allows us to enjoy the local sporting grounds, parks, pool and is close by the Centre of Maitland. I thoroughly enjoy working with the educators, children and families of the service, becoming an extended family in our own little community.
Who Inspires you and why?
Children inspire me. I have always admired the way children view the world. As adults we can learn so much when we take in the child’s perspective.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about early childhood attachments and creating respectful relationships with children within an inclusive environment.
