BABIES AND BOXES
Boxes are so much fun! There’s no need to buy fancy blocks to build your infant’s motor skills. Wrap up some smaller boxes (such as cereal boxes or shoe boxes) with recycled newspaper or wrapping paper and allow your baby to handle them and learn to rip them open.
Your child will love the sound of the paper ripping as they pull on it. They will also enjoy stacking boxes, knocking them over, and rebuilding the stack with your help.
Extension Activities
- Pile the boxes up and knock them down, encouraging your baby do the same. Exclaim playfully and repeat.
- Pile the boxes up and top them with a favourite soft toy before tumbling them over.
- Put a box behind a chair, letting your baby see you place it there. It is likely that your baby will scoot over to retrieve it so you can continue the game.
